CCNA Notes - April 19, 2005 Thank you to all of you who were able to participate in our meeting with representatives of the City of Lincoln Water, Parks, and Engineering Departments. Many of the 45 medians in the CCNA area were laid out with water access when the neighborhood was originally designed. Discussions of how to repair, restore, and maintain the existing water available to boulevards was productive. The City Water Department has been helpful is working toward ways for this to happen. Previously, they agreed to no longer abandon an existing hydrant if it is leaking without first checking with CCNA officers to see if anyone is willing to pay for the repair costs. CCNA is pursuing with the City a variety of ways that water may be available to these areas, especially in the hot summer months so that trees and turf are not destroyed. If you would like to work on this project, contact a CCNA board member. The City Parks Department presented several ideas of how CCNA may pursue paying for boulevard and median improvements. CCNA would like to see new curb, gutter, and paving of Sheridan Boulevard, as this is a main arterial through our historic neighborhood. The deteriorating condition of this street is distracting from the many efforts made by neighbors to beautify this drive through the heart of our neighborhood. Previously 24th and 25th Streets had been in the plan for curb repair/replacement and new asphalt. The most recent street improvement plan released by the mayor's office did not include these streets. A representative of the Engineering Department said he would check the placement of those projects in the new plan and report back to CCNA. Portions of Woods Boulevard and Kessler Circle are in the plan for rehabilitation. CCNA will place major efforts this year in "sprucing up" the neighborhood. While everyone is requested to make a special effort this year to help their particular block (see Volunteer Requests site), the Colonial Heights area will receive CCNA's first attention this year. The Traffic
Concerns/Safety committee is being formed. There are many issues which
need attention--safe pedestrian crossings, speed of traffic on 27th
Street, Sheridan Boulevard, Woods Avenue and other streets, and traffic
flow through our neighborhood-- to name a few. Please call Barney
Helton (730-9076) if you have any interest in working on this committee. Copyright
